Once activated, users are able to select operation via a tray menu or a simple to use screen that provides fast and easy access to the main features such as making a call from the PC, sending a message to colleagues or customers, viewing the last 50 incoming or outgoing calls details, retrieving contact details using the Address book, and also provides the ability to inform others of your current status.

In addition to the main screen there are user programmable pop out windows that are located on the right hand side of the BT Unified Communicator main window that enable users to view additional information such as the real time presence status of contacts, Door Access control system images and live information feeds to enable users to keep informed of changes as they happen.

Through the setting section users are able to access and configure the software to a high degree to offer a more bespoke look and feel, and are then able to subscribe to BT online services and take advantage of additional features such as sending a text to mobile phones, starting an instant web conference whilst on a call, and are able to configure the software to allow users to dial from Web pages, documents and desktop applications.
